Today something happened that made me pause in the middle of daily life and just smile like a true ham 😄
Out of the blue, a call came in from ZS4AW in South Africa – and yes, we made a successful QSO!
Now, you might be thinking: "Alright, probably with a big beam, linear amp and the full setup..."
But nope – no fancy antenna farm here, no hundreds of watts, no rotators on the roof.
Just 30 watts and a simple mobile antenna hanging down from my upstairs neighbor’s balcony, looking more like a laundry line than anything RF-related 😂
No black magic. Just good propagation and a humble little setup that got the job done.
It’s moments like these that keep the spark alive in this hobby.
You don’t always need big gear to reach far – sometimes just a bit of luck, a bit of RF, and a lot of patience.
12 meters is open – and so is the ham spirit!
